Nudists Testify at House of Commons Justice Committee

OTTAWA, April 7, 2005

The Federation of Canadian Naturists (FCN) and La Fédération québécoise de naturisme (FQN) represented by the FCN Government Affairs Director, Judy Williams, today testified to concerns about Bill C-2, A n Act to amend the Criminal Code (protection of children and other vulnerable persons) and the Canada Evidence Act.

"Naturists wholeheartedly support the intent of Bill C-2," said Williams. "However, we are concerned that the bill as drafted will equate a longstanding healthful way of living with voyeurism and pornography."

Also testifying to the Commons Justice Committee was the President of the FCN, Stéphane Deschênes. "Our society is confusing nudity with sexual activity" said Deschênes. "Bill C-2 could cause all parents, not just naturists, to become fearful of their own children's harmless nudity."
