Nudists Find Toronto Police Service Press Release Unfair
November 18, 2004
The Federation of Canadian Naturists feels deep sympathy for any victims who may have been hurt by sex offenders. However, we take exception to the Toronto Police Service Sex Crime Unit's press release (November 18, 2005, 10h45) which specifically target nudists/naturists.
The release specifically identifies the activities of Robert Noel Clemens in a Toronto area nudist club yet fails to identify any of his other activities. While it is possible that these terrible allegations could have occurred in connection with his nudist activities, we are certain that he was in contact with children while practicing many other activities.
The reality is that most child abusers, if they are not related to the victim, have been members of educational, community, religious or sports organizations which involve children. By not mentioning the accused other activities, we feel that the Toronto Police Service is unfairly targeting naturism/nudism because of the sensationalistic nature of nudity.
The reality is that several scientific studies have shown the positive effects of a naturist/nudist lifestyle on the psychological well-being of children. Children raised with naturist/nudist ideals have more self- confidence and hold a much better attitude towards the human body.
